Latest obsessions

Here are two snacks I’ve recently found.  They are healthy, satisfying, and FODMAPs free.

I tried the “cheesy” flavor and although it didn’t taste cheesy at all, it was good.  I loved the sunflower seed flavor.  It had a nice crunchy texture and (unlike other raw products I’ve tried) it wasn’t stale or cardboard like.

I really want to try the other flavors now, especially the sea salt & vinegar.  Unfortunately, many of the others have FODMAP ingredients like agave and garlic powder.  While I can tolerate onion and garlic in their powder form, I know others are still iffy on this.

As you can see, the nutritional info for the “cheesy” chips is clean and wholesome.  Vegan, gluten free, raw, organic.  The company is also based in Oakland, CA, so there’s the local love too.  I’m a fan.

The ingredients are vegan and gluten free with practically zero FODMAPs.  There’s soy flour listed, but the amount must be trace because I didn’t have any GI issues at all.

These are great on their own, but also work well crushed atop a salad for some crunch.

Food Should Taste Good makes several other delicious flavors that I’ve tried, my all time favorite being sweet potato.  They just released a new line of kettle chips that I’ve yet to try.

The last item I wanted to share is not a snack.

The Original Sunshine Burger

Vegan, gluten free, soy free, and really delicious.

Brown rice, carrots and sunflower seeds make a hearty and flavorful combo.

Be sure to get the original veggie burger because the other flavors have FODMAP ingredients like beans, onions, & garlic.

What FODMAPs friendly products have you discovered lately?

  1. OK question for you. If nutritional yeast is fodmap friendly then why does it kill me just like the fructans? I think I read somewhere it had MSG in it – could that be the cause?

    • im not sure what kind of nutritional yeast you are using but mine only has one ingredient listed: saccharomyces cerevisiae. and as far as i know, yeast in that form doesnt have msg nor turn into msg in the body. the “natural flavors” and “autolyzed yeast extract” and those kinds of ingredients that you have to watch out for. heres a good article i found:
      http://www.naturalnews.com/025066.html

seems well researched but i cant verify because im not an expert on this stuff.

i do know that for those who are sensitive, products like field roast’s sausage are out because after eating them last year a reader commented about this and i did some research and found she was correct.

according to the elimination ( http://www.foodintol.com/ ) plan im trying right now theres no reason to cut out yeast unless you have recurring fungal infections like thrush, tinea, jock itch or ringworm.

      so yeah…??

      • It’s been a couple years since I’ve had it but I think I got it in the bulk bin at Whole Foods. I didn’t know about fodmaps and things back then so I guess it’s possible that I was eating something else that was bothering me and just thought it was the nutritional yeast. Either way – I’ve always hated cheese and cheese flavored things (so anti-american I know haha) so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything, I was just curious if you might have an answer.

    • Yeast can also be troublesome if you have a candida overgrowth. Most traditional doctors don’t recognize this, and you’d have better luck with a homeopathic or natural medicine doctor to diagnose this. SIBO could also cause you to be sensitive to yeast.

      • I have had SIBO several times in the past (several year ago, treated with Xifaxan each time). Last year I got most of my GI issues under control w/ thyroid medicine and haven’t had SIBO in a long time. But it was a long time ago when I tried nutritional yeast so that definitely could have been the culprit. Thanks!

  4. Meagan, What kind of medicine do you use for your Thyroid? What sort of issues do you have with it?
I’m thinking that my thyroid may be the culprit as well even though my tests come back borderline and my doc tells me not to worry, i don’t feel like my self lately at all!!
